In June 2018, a total of more than 14,000 units of various types of excavators were sold by 24 major excavator manufacturing enterprises included in the statistics, representing a year-on-year increase of 58.8%. Sales reached a record high for the same month for the second consecutive month.

In the first half of this year, cumulative excavator sales exceeded 120,000 units, up 60% year on year. The first-half sales volume of 120,000 units is only more than 7,000 units short of the historical highest first-half sales recorded in 2011, making it increasingly likely that annual sales will reach a new record high.

From the perspective of brand competition, in June, SANY achieved sales of more than 3,100 units, accounting for 22.2% of total sales; Caterpillar ranked second with sales of more than 2,000 units; XCMG sold approximately 1,600 excavators, ranking third. Other brands with sales exceeding 1,000 units include Doosan and LiuGong.

In the first half of the year, cumulative sales of four brands—SANY, Caterpillar, XCMG, and Doosan—each exceeded 10,000 units, with the four brands together accounting for 55.5% of total sales. LiuGong, Shandong Lingong, Komatsu, and Hitachi Construction Machinery ranked 5th to 8th respectively. The top eight brands accounted for 78.3% of total sales, indicating a continued increase in industry concentration.

In terms of tonnage, in the first half of 2018, sales of small (13 tons and below), medium, and large excavators (30 tons and above) were approximately 58,700 units, 43,900 units, and 17,600 units respectively, accounting for 48.8%, 36.5%, and 14.6% of total sales. Further breakdown shows that excavators in the 5≤a≤6 ton and 19.5＜a≤24.9 ton ranges were the most popular, with sales of 28,900 units and 28,200 units respectively, together accounting for about half of total sales.

From a regional sales perspective, in June, excavator sales in Shandong Province and Jiangsu Province exceeded 1,000 units, while sales in Anhui, Sichuan, and Henan provinces were all above 800 units.

In the first half of the year, excavator sales in Jiangsu Province and Shandong Province were neck and neck, both exceeding 8,500 units. Sales in Sichuan and Henan provinces were above 7,000 units. Provinces with cumulative sales exceeding 5,000 units also include Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, and Guizhou.

In June, excavator exports reached 1,723 units, up sharply by 143.7% year on year. In the first half of the year, cumulative excavator exports totaled approximately 8,900 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 110.5%.

In the first half of the year, exports of small, medium, and large excavators were approximately 2,600 units, 4,600 units, and 1,700 units respectively. Among them, the 19.5＜a≤24.9 ton segment exported more than 3,600 units, accounting for about 40% of total exports.

From the performance of individual models, in the first half of the year, SANY SY75C-10 ranked far ahead with sales of more than 5,500 units. Among the top ten best-selling models, SANY accounted for five models, XCMG for two models, while Doosan, Caterpillar, and Shandong Lingong each had one model. One model from each brand is listed as follows: SANY SY75C-10, XCMG XE60D, Caterpillar 305.5E2, Doosan DX55-9C, and Shandong Lingong E660F.
